Meet with your private guide and driver to spend a half day exploring the West Bank of the Nile, home to the Valley of the Kings and the temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Start with a visit to the Valley of the Kings to explore the famous Tomb of Tutankhamun along with two other interesting tombs. King Tut became Pharaoh at the tender age of nine or ten, and the discovery of his nearly intact tomb in 1922 fascinated the world. For a period of nearly 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC, tombs were constructed for the kings and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom (the Eighteenth to the Twentieth Dynasties of Ancient Egypt). Explore the recently renovated mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the second historically confirmed female Pharaoh. She is generally regarded by Egyptologists as one of the most successful Pharaohs, reigning longer than any other woman of an indigenous Egyptian dynasty, and remembered as the first great woman in history of whom we are informed. End the visit to the West Bank with a visit to the Colossi of Memnon, the only remaining monuments of the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III.
This afternoon, Sail to Edfu and overnight.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 09: Cruising the Nile | Edfu to Kom Ombo
Sights and Insights
A horse carriage will be waiting for you and your private guide when you disembark from your Nile cruise to explore the Temple of Horus in Edfu. Dedicated to Horus, the falcon god, the temple was built from 230 to 57 BC by Ptolemy III and his successors and is considered the best-preserved cult temple in Egypt because of its later construction date. Despite its late era origins, it reflects traditional pharaonic architecture, and the Temple’s inscribed building texts provides an excellent idea of how all the temples once looked, with details about its construction. It fell into disuse as a religious monument when the Roman Empire banned all non-Christian worship within the Empire in 391. Edfu is an impressive temple, and is the second largest in Egypt after Karnak Temple.
Sail to Kom Ombo, Upon arrival disembark from your Nile cruise to explore on foot the Kom Ombo Temple, a unique Greco-Roman temple dedicated to two gods: Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, the sun god. The Temple in Kom Ombo dates from about 180 BC, during a period known as the Ptolemaic era, and had some additions built on to it during Roman times. It stands right on the bank of the Nile between Edfu and Aswan. The temple is unusual in that it is a double temple, with one side dedicated to the god Haroesis and the other side to Sobek. The design is almost perfectly symmetrical, with two side-by-side sanctuaries and two parallel passageways leading through the outer parts of the temple. The right side is dedicated to Sobek-Re (the crocodile god combined with the sun god Re), along with his wife (a form of Hathor) and their son Khonsu-Hor. Sobek is associated with Seth, the enemy of Horus. In the myth of Horus and Osiris, Seth and his followers changed themselves into crocodiles to escape. The ancient Egyptians believed that by honoring the fearsome crocodile as a god, they would be safe from attacks. The left side is dedicated to Haroeris, the “Good Doctor” (a form of the falcon-headed god Horus the Elder) along with his consort Ta-Sent-Nefer, the “God Sister” (another form of Hathor). Sail to Aswan and overnight.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 10: Optional Abu Simbel Temple | Aswan to Cairo
On the Road Again
Early morning optional trip to Abu Simbel Templs by car (3 hrs each way by road, $110 Per Person) Discover the commanding twin temples of Ramses II and his wife, Queen Nefertari. The former’s façade is dominated by four statues of the pharaoh, each nearly 70 feet tall. Perhaps even more impressive, this entire site was disassembled and moved here to save it from the floodwaters caused by the Aswan High Dam.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 11: Aswan | Majestic Philae
The Journey Continues…
Today, bid farewell to ‘Nile Cruise, Enjoy a tour of the impressive Aswan High Dam was a marvel of engineering when it was constructed. Originally conceived to Egypt’s irrigation of farmland to mitigate against drought and famine in low-water years, and flooding in high-water years. Visit the dam with your private guide and spend a half day learning about Aswan. The dam displaced over 100,000 Nubians in Sudan and Egypt alike and was part of a major relocation project for archaeological sites under the UNESCO Nubia Campaign, including the Abu Simbel temples and Philae. Other sites were eventually flooded by Lake Nasser, the world’s largest artificial lake that was created by the Aswan High Dam. Then head to Philae and the Temple of Isis on Agilikia Island. Stop at the stone quarries to see the unfinished obelisk, the largest known ancient obelisk and a very good practical demonstration of the methods used by ancient craftsmen to create impressive moments. Marks from workers’ tools are still clearly visible on the bedrock. Later, transfer to the Aswan airport and fly to Cairo via Aswan.
Check in to your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at leisure.
Meals: Breakfast.
Day 12: Depart Cairo

EXCITING JOURNEY & WONDERFUL TOUR GUIDES It was a fun trip, by dingy and camel, to Luxor. A guided tour is the only good way to make this journey. Our very knowledgeable tour guides were fantastic, helpful, and provided lots of direction and insight into what we were seeing. The dinghy combing its way through the Nile branch provided us with great views, and our guide made it into an even more enjoyable, and information-filled trip. This was a worry-free excursion. The tour company had everything well-planned in advance.

GREAT EXPERIENCE IN LUXOR Joining this trip has become the best memory in Luxor! We visited the remarkable historical sites with Romany, and learned many of Egyptian culture and stories. Romany is very warm and thoughtful who took care of every detail for us. And he has abundant knowledge about the ancient Egypt. You can see a great passion on him toward the Egypt culture. We really had a great time, and choosing Osama has been a right choice:)

WONDERFUL TRIP I had such an amazing time in Egypt, and a big part of that was due to this company. My guide was George, and he was with me for four days from Aswan to Luxor. He was so incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and was able to answer all of my questions. Because I was traveling alone, I wasn’t sure how to see all the sites I wanted to see while taking the Nile cruise, and Osama made it so simple by arranging everything. I’m not usually a tour guide person, but I thoroughly enjoyed my trip, and cannot recommend Journey To Egypt more!!

AMAZING VACATION IN EGYPT I Osama from Expedition Egypt tailored the entire week for me. Traveling solo, I wanted to ensure I selected a reliable tour based on reviews. Osama is extremely responsive and was in communication with me throughout my vacation. I booked this trip last minute and Osama planned the entire week for me and had every detail outlined so I knew exactly who I would be meeting with each day. He also made great recommendations for side trips. I spent the first day with Alfred in Giza at the Pyramids, Sphinx, Papyrus, and Cairo Museum. Alfred is so passionate about Egyptian history and I soaked it all in. He knew so many people and was an amazing tour guide with extensive knowledge. Spent the next day in Alexandria with Neveen and had a wonderful tour to the Catacombs, Library, Citadel and a perfect lunch overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Flew to Luxor and was greeted by John at the airport and visited temples before embarking on a Nile Cruise. John spent the next amazing 5 days with me all the way to Aswan. John made this voyage extra special with his knowledge and insight. Osama checked in with me every day to ensure everything was going smoothly. He even called the hotel shuttle bus driver on my return trip to Cairo from Aswan to confirm I had been picked up from the airport safely. Egypt is a beautiful country with extraordinary history and Osama ensured I was in great hands with private tour guides and drivers the entire vacation. I highly recommend Journey to Egypt for an unforgettable holiday!

LOVE QUEEN HATSHEPSUT ! My husband and I travelled to Egypt to visit family living there and they arranged our Nile River Cruise for us as they had previously done the same tour with Expedition Egypt. Our guide Osama met us at the airport with a big smile, water and snacks. Much appreciated. He was very attentive to our needs, always having water available for us and at each site telling us stories about the temples, the pharaohs and the gods which really made the entire tour most enjoyable. He was very knowledgable and would take us into the shade to give us the history as it was very hot during our tour. He always provided free time allowing us the time to take photos and see the things we really wanted to see. Remember that you’ll always have time to wander on your own so listen to the stories he tells because it all really comes together by the end of the tour and you’ll never forget Queen Hatshepsut ( ie. hot chicken soup or hat cheap suit), she’s still my favourite! What a woman:) We had plans to go to Abu Simbel but there was a huge sandstorm the night before and the road to the temple was closed so Osama did some quick rearranging for us and made our last day in Aswan very memorable. We saw the Nubian village ( loved all the colours), the Unfinished Obelisk, the High Dam and Philae ( the temple on the water). Then we took a speed boat back to the ship. Osama’s first time in a speed boat and we had a blast. Osama took very good care of us. He helped me purchase some gifts and mementos, and took care of every thing travelling from site to site and on the Nile Cruise Ship. He always provided the schedule for the next day so we knew how long we’d be gone. He also provided internet aboard the boat so that we wouldn’t have to pay the premium price the boat would have charged us. We spent many of our meals on the ship with Osama and had many great conversations learning all about Egypt today. This was a trip we will never forget and I would recommend Journey to Egypt to everyone wanting a courteous, knowledgable, fun and friendly guide who has a passion for guiding.
